Eleven hotels and restaurants in Mirchaiya Municipality have been marked for food hygiene and upgrading after the grading. Food Technology and Quality Control Division Rajbiraj stuck stickers on the hotel doors, suggesting the need for upgrading. A team led by Deputy Mayor at Mirchaiya Municipality Jibachhidevi Saha recently conducted the monitoring of the eateries, according to Chief of Division, Suresh Kumar Singh. The monitoring team categorized the hotels and restaurants into four groups based on their atmosphere and quality. The owners of 11 hotels and restaurants were even provided necessary training on how they could maintain hygiene.

Food hygiene, sanitation, kitchen, and waste management among others were studied by the monitoring group as the indicators for grading. Even the certificates were distributed on the occasion.

Those scoring over 90 were labeled excellent while the best ones had to score from 80 to 90, satisfactory one 65 to 79, and ordinary one below 65.

The hotels marked for upgrading must work for it within six months otherwise the grading logo would be canceled, Singh warned.

The monitoring and upgrading team consisted of a central member of the Hotel Entrepreneurs’ Association, Ram Kumar Gupta; Secretary at Mirchaiya Chamber of Commerce, Bharat Mahaseth; and Chairman of National Consumers’ Forum at district, Ramananda Gupta, among others.
