57 new cases of coronavirus infection reported on Saturday

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Saturday reported 57 new cases of coronavirus infection in Nepal. The addition of new cases has taken the country’s COVID-19 tally to 272,614.

Of the newly infected, 27 are reported to be females and 30 are males.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have reported 31 new cases of coronavirus infection — 24 in Kathmandu, six in Lalitpur and one in Bhaktapur — in the last 24 hours. Of the newly infected in the valley, 17 are females and 14 others are males.

As many as 133 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. With this, a total of 268,929 persons infected with coronavirus in the country have recovered as of Saturday. At present, the recovery rate stands at 98.7 per cent as per the data released by the MoHP.

Likewise, the death toll from COVID-19 has remained 2,054 since no fatalities have been reported in the past 24 hours. Presently, there are 1,631 active cases in Nepal.

Earlier, the MoHP on Friday had reported 127 new cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the COVID-19 tally to 272,557.

More than 108.15 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 2,485,205 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, a Reuters tally showed.

The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
