It has been a while since Nepal started participating in the Olympics. It was in 1964 when Nepal first participated in the ‘Summer Olympics‘ and the ‘Winter Olympics‘ in 2002. However, Nepal has yet to bag a medal in the Olympics.
Bidhan Lama, a Nepali taekwondo player, won a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. However, the medal won by Bidhan Lama was not officially recognized, and was included as a performance sport and not as a competition.
In 1986 in Seoul, four Nepali taekwondo players and four boxing players won bronze medals. Nepal, which has been participating in the Asian Games since 1951, had won medals for the first time in such an important sports competition. Similarly, Savita Raj Bhandari, a Nepali taekwondo player, won a silver medal for the first time at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand. Nepal has won bronze medals in various Asian Games. However, the gold medal is yet to be won.
