Violence against women on the rise

Nanda Kumari Nembang, 35, of Falgunanda Village has been rescued and kept at a rehabilitation center in Kathmandu for treatment by the National Commission for Women (NCW). Similarly, an elderly couple stranded on the road in Jorpati was rescued and rehabilitated in an old age home.

Munamagar of Godavari and Laxmi Bhat of Doti were rescued after being burnt alive. The two women were provided Rs 500,000 each; a woman who was a victim of attempted rape received Rs 300,000 from the fund; and a woman who was subjected to extreme torture on the charge of witchcraft in Swayambhu was provided Rs 500,000 from the fund. Thus, the NCW has been providing financial assistance from the Gender Based Violence Prevention Fund to the victims of such violent incidents.
