Khumjung, a beautiful destination for tourists

Solukhumbu has succeeded in becoming the most important destination for tourists in Nepal. Among the tourists who came to Nepal, Solukhumbu has been established as a world-famous tourist destination for adventure tourism.

 Different places in Solukhumbu have their own characteristics. These places are being chosen by tourists. 

Even in this case, Local people have complained that the Khumjung area of Solukhumbu is lagging behind in tourism. This place is at an altitude of 3790 meters. Khumjung in Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality of Khumbu is considered a picturesque place.

Tourists coming to Solukhumbu stay in Namchebazar and visit Khumjung.

From Khumjung, you can see the world’s highest peaks like Everest, Lhotse and Amadablam. Khumbila Mountain is located near it.

Even in such a situation, they are complaining that local residents are upset because tourists only come to visit Khumjung but often do not stay there.

 There is a good internet facility in Khumjung. Similarly, hotels of different levels have also opened. Although there is a good arrangement for the stay, the tourist map published by the Nepal Tourism Board mentions staying in Namchebazar for 2 days, but there is no mention of staying in Khumjung. Because of this, the local residents feel that Khumjung is lagging behind.

There are various places worth visiting in Khumjung.

 There is an old monastery in Khumjung where information about the Yeti can be found. Similarly, a museum related to Sherpa culture has also been built. In the newly built houses in Khumjung, although the external structure is modern, the interior design of the house has been kept according to the old tradition.

In Khumjung, there is Khumjung School, which was built in 1961 by Sir Edmund Hillary, the first climber of Mount Everest. Similarly, Solukhumbu’s oldest Khunde Hospital is also located here.

Local residents claim that Khumjung is cheaper than Namchebazar. However, the number of tourists coming to stay is less.

Now domestic tourists are coming to Khumjung. Some stay in Namchebazar and come to visit Khumjung and some stay in Khumjung for three or four days and return back.

The level of Sangboche Airport in Khumjung has not been improved. Locals complain that the airport is in critical condition. Currently, only MI 17 helicopters are operating from there for cargo. Such flights are also not regular. Although a request was made to the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation on behalf of the local village for regular flight operations from that airport, it was not heard.

The Lukla airport in Solukhumbu is operating regularly and due to the opposition of the local residents, the Sangboche airport has not been able to operate.

Khumjung Youth Club was established in the year 1993 with the aim of gathering the participation of local people in the development activities of the Khumjung region. The club has been active in activities such as cleaning the village and making the locals self-reliant.

This club, which has been involving local residents in various fields, has been organizing volleyball tournaments for 28 years. Similarly, it has been organizing the Lhosar Cup football tournament for 12 years. Dawa Chhiring Sherpa, president of the club, informed that the goal is to enter the Khumjung Youth
