Solukhumbu District Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality is going to work strategically for climate justice in Khumbu area. Bringing public awareness for climate justice, drawing the attention of national and international organizations for adaptation programs, setting legal infrastructure, etc. has been prioritized by the rural municipality.
Village Chairman Mingmar Chiri Sherpa said that the snow has started to decrease in the mountains, there is a water crisis, and there is a problem in the crops, so adaptation programs are necessary.
For this, the rural municipality has been working on climate justice and has also partnered for 5 years.
In an event held in Khumjung, the rural municipality has signed and exchanged the memorandum of understanding with the partnership organization.
The rural municipality has partnered with the team led by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Indira Ranamagar who is trekking in Khumbu, a high Himalayan region of Solukhumbu. The agreement was signed by the vice Chairperson Tasilhamu Sherpa on behalf of the village guardian and also by the Chairperson of the Sath Sathai organization Prajita Karki.
It is mentioned in the agreement that there will be cooperation in study, research and development work on the impact of climate change on the local people.
In the program held in Khumjung, a high Himalayan region of Solu, Deputy Speaker Ranamar appreciated the local people for starting strategic work for climate justice and said that he is always ready for the role to be played by the Parliament for its implementation.
