Bamboo Business makes living standard better

Bir Singh of Thugunna village in Shuklaphanta Municipality-7 has become an industrialist after taking 17 days training in making bamboo products from a group from the same village.

 By joining the Sundevi Consumer Group, Thagunna learned the skill of making bamboo products a decade ago. After learning the skill, he started working it professionally and now he doesn't have to go anywhere else for money. They have been making hangars, tables, chairs, sofas, yaks, baskets, rugs and other home decoration items from bamboo.

 While honing the skills learned in the training, he has become known as a successful businessman making bamboo materials. They have been earning Rs 30,000 to Rs 70,000 on a monthly basis.

 "We have been making and selling bamboo materials as per the demand," he said. "We have been producing 50 to 100 materials per month. After deducting the cost, the income is as expected. ”

 Mentioning that he used to go to Indian territory to earn money in the last few years, he said that his days of going to India came to an end after he started earning a living at home after learning the skill. He has been living in a mud house and has built a permanent house in the village with the money he has earned by making bamboo material. The son has been sent to Kathmandu for higher education. He informed that his son's education expenses along with household expenses have been met by the income earned from selling all the bamboo materials.

 "After learning the skill of making bamboo products, I didn't have the money to run the business," he said. I started working by buying cane from the community forest of Kailali and bamboo from the local area with the loan money. The income from that was increasing. I repaid the loan with interest. ” He said that the work has become easier after the ward office evaluated the work and provided a grant of Rs. One lakh.

 "I have taken a loan of Rs 200,000 from the group along with a grant of Rs 100,000 from the ward and registered a fraudulent cane handicraft industry," he said. Now there is a plan to make and sell bamboo products as per the demand in the market. ”

 He said that the amount received in the grant and the loan amount taken from the group has been spent on the purchase of cane and paint along with the purchase of bamboo. Materials made of bamboo are sold for Rs. 400 to Rs. 1000. By deducting expenses, one can make a profit of Rs. 100 to Rs. 300.

 The hand-woven bamboo material is being sold in the local market along with Dadeldhura, Baitadi and Bajhang. Thagunna plans to develop the industry as a training center for bamboo, not just as a means of earning a living. Ward Chairman Jagat Bahadur Singh said that they were encouraged by providing a grant from the ward as Thagunna has shown speed by doing fast work with a few days of training.

 "We have provided financial assistance to Thagunna, who has become a source of inspiration for others by becoming self-employed," he said. He said that more than half a dozen youths of the ward have been assisted to run self-employment programs with Thagunna.

 "Entrepreneurs do not have to enter the Mughals," said Chairman Singh. You can live a comfortable life by living with your family and earning a quick income.
