Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh has said the police personnel should be in a ready position at any time for maintaining the law and order.

Issuing directives to the chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office Ranipokhari and the offices under it at the Police Headquarters today, he said the alertness of the police force is significant in preventing any type of criminal incidents.

IGP Singh also urged the police office chiefs to fully carry out their responsibilities and directed the Valley police officers to remain in a ready position to deduce the possible untoward incidents by making a review of recent incidents.

Reiterating that it is the police force alone which is the institution that provides a sense of the State's presence to the general public, IGP Singh said, "The police should be alert and in a ready position about the possible incidents that might take place in coming days by assessing the recent incidents. They should not hesitate to use force as permitted by the law and necessity."

IGP Singh called for taking the incident that occurred at the New Buspark area in course of the transport workers' agitation on Monday seriously and for identifying the persons involved in arson and looting and bringing them to book. The police should not escape from their main responsibility of maintaining the law and order, he reiterated.

Stating that the traffic checking should be made more systematic, IGP Singh called on all police personnel to fulfill their duty in a highly professional manner by adopting a policy of zero tolerance against opaque practices in financial matters. He stressed conducting the arrest of fugitives on a campaign basis and being more focused on crime investigation with utter seriousness.

Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office Ranipokhari, Additional Inspector General Dibesh Lohani said that police personnel working at his Office and other police offices under it were committed to executing the IGP's orders.
