In today's meeting of the House of Representatives, the MPs have drawn the attention of the Nepalese government to provide fertilizers to the farmers as soon as possible. Speaking at a special time in the meeting, Dr. Dila Sangraula of Nepali Congress said, "Until now, the farmers have not been able to get fertilizer, there is a black market in some places, the government has only been giving assurances of getting fertilizer, I want to draw attention to solve the problems faced by the farmers."
He expressed his concern over the lack of supply of fertilizers due to confusion over the process of G to G agreement with India. According to the public procurement act, the supply starts only after 30 days of the contract, so if it is changed and the supply is started in eight days according to the international regulations, the government official says that the fertilizer can be delivered on time.
MP Sangraula questioned, "If that is the case, the Parliament is running, what has stopped the amendment of the Public Procurement Act?" Will it be amended only after the new election? If there is any other reason, an answer is needed.
Last year, Saptari farmers protested for chemical fertilizers. Last June, farmers of Dhading stole two truckloads of chemical fertilizers from the road. Only last week, the government signed an agreement with the Indian government to purchase about nine million metric tons of chemical fertilizers for five years.
