Til Prasad Shrestha, appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court, has taken the oath of office and secrecy today. Justice Shrestha has taken the oath of office and secrecy before acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki.
After unanimous approval from Tuesday's meeting of the parliamentary hearing committee, President Bidyadevi Bhandari appointed Shrestha as a judge of the Supreme Court.
Shrestha, who is the Chief Justice of the Biratnagar High Court, was recommended as a Supreme Court judge by a meeting of the Judicial Council held on March 10. Judge Shrestha, while sitting in the Pokhara, Rajbiraj and Biratnagar High Courts, has dropped the number of cases to more than two years and has been on the list of most disposed of judges.
The Judicial Council nominated his name for the Supreme Court and sent it to the committee for a parliamentary hearing on March 10. He initiated important activities such as adopting an electronic system during court proceedings, informing service recipients about the pace and decision preparation, interaction and training with local-level officials on case resolution, a free legal field in court, a judicial network, 'meet the judge' and decision writing to satisfy losers.
