The Pashupatinath temple remained closed for four and a half months to devotees in consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, preparations have been made to open the temple for devotees from 5:30 am on Friday after holding a 'kshama puja' (worshipping of deity asking pardon) today organised by Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT).

The temple will be open only till 1:00 pm in the afternoon as the risk of the coronavirus is low but not completely gone. Devotees who want to visit the Pashupatinath temple must wear a mask and only 25 devotees will be allowed to enter the temple at a time.

To enter the temple, devotees have to queue up maintaining a physical distance. The PADT has made arrangements to enter the temple through one door and exit through the other door. The special pooja will not be open from Friday, said Dr Ghanshyam Khatiwada, executive director of the Fund.

The Pashupatinath temple was closed to devotees for nine months in the first wave of coronavirus pandemic in Nepal.
