People associated with entertainment sector compelled to face sexual exploitation, forced labour

 Men and women associated with the entertainment sector are compelled to face sexual exploitation, forced labor, and violence according to police investigation.

Human Trafficking and Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police, has arrested 19 people on the charge of involving people in prostitution so far in the current fiscal year.

Eight men and 11 women were arrested from dance bars, restaurants, and guest houses operated at different places in Kathmandu—Ratopool, Gongabu, Thamel, Gaushala, Laltitpur, Chabahil, Jadibuti, Shivachowk, Jorpati, Machhapokhari, Mitrapark and Narayantar, said Deputy Superintendent of Police at Bureau, Birendra Godar.

It was shared in a program organized by the Bureau at the coordination of Anahat Nepal, an organization active in women empowerment and violence reduction.

As per the statistics of the Bureau, 59 people—15 men and 44 women were found victims of domestic trafficking and prostitution. A total of 521 people were arrested for their involvement in human trafficking in the last three years, according to the Bureau.

Deputy Superintendent of the Bureau, Birendra Godar said that it is found from investigation that girls are mainly trafficked from rural areas to urban areas alluring them of jobs and forced to work in the flesh trade and they fall victim to various forms of exploitation.

Out of three big organized crimes in the world, human trafficking is the main crime. Programme Manager of Anahat Nepal, Sanjay Dhakal, said girls are found to be involved in prostitution by bringing them to commercial centres under various temptations.

Mostly, girls from 13 to 17 years old become the victims of domestic trafficking, he added.
