CHITWAN: Chitwan National Park (CNP) has earned over Rs 100 million in revenue from 72,000 visitors.

A total of 72,461 people visited the park between mid-July and mid-December of the current fiscal year.

According to Avinash Thapa Magar, the park's Information and Conservation Officer, foreign tourists have outnumbered domestic visitors during this period.

Of the total visitors, 33,730 were foreign tourists, while 32,880 were domestic.

Additionally, 5,851 visitors from South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries also visited the park during this time.

Magar highlighted that the park collected Rs 106.71 million in revenue from both domestic and foreign visitors in the last five months.

During this period, the park also released 41 gharial crocodiles, bred at the Gharial Breeding Center in Kasara, into the wild.

A total of 40 female and one male gharial were released into the Rapti River in three separate batches.

In partnership with local communities, the park has been organizing meetings and developing action plans focused on wildlife protection and preventing poaching.

Magar also shared that the rhino population in the western part of the park has increased, and plans are in place to relocate some to the eastern region.

This relocation is seen as critical for rhino conservation, especially due to the threat posed by flooding in the Narayani River.
