Five students’ unions today staged a sit-in at the Thankot Depot of Nepal Oil Corporation, protesting against the rise in the prices of petroleum products.

The students agitating against the price hike of petroleum products announced the closure of petrol pumps across the country and obstructed the fuel supply from the Thankot Depot. Nepal Students Union, All Nepal National Independent Students Union (ANNISU-Revolutionary), All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU-Madhav Nepal group), Socialist Students Union (Upendra Yadav group) and Akhil Sixth have forged the alliance to protest the hike of petro products. They gathered at Thankot for the sit-in protest that kicked off at 9:30 am.

According to Depot Chief Abhishek Thakur, the supply has been obstructed with the protest of the students. “The students are gathered in the main entrance to the depot since this morning,” he said.

Today’s protest, however, is not likely to cause the immediate shortage of petroleum products as most of the pumps made the supplies on Tuesday evening.

According to Nepal Petroleum Dealers’ National Association, some petrol pumps in the Kathmandu Valley remained shut today due to the students’ protest while most of the dealers remained open. Petro dealers nearby schools and colleges were shut by the students, said Association chair Leelendra Pradhan
