One Piece anime, based on a manga of the same name, started airing on Fuji TV in 1999. After 22 long years of weekly serialization, it has reached its 1000th episode milestone, to a highly positive reception.

Eiichiro Oda's manga, One Piece, already crossed its 1000th chapter mark in 2020. It is the most sold manga of all time, which has made author Oda a Guinness World Record holder for "the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author" with almost 490 million copies printed worldwide up until November 2021.
Toei Animation, the studio which produces the One Piece Anime also revealed a new movie's release date a few days before the 1000th episode's airing. The movie is titled "One Piece Film: Red" which is releasing on August 6th, 2022.

The episode, despite marking a special occasion, does not divert from its original source material. However, it has received a new opening which includes reanimated scenes of its first opening used in episode one, 22 years ago in 1999.
Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece has hinted at One Piece's ending coming "soon" so the hype surrounding the series is at its peak at the moment. It seems that Toei Animation revealed One Piece Film Red to add to the hype surrounding its 1000th episode and rumors of the anime's ending coming in less than 5 years. Not to mention, there is even a Netflix live-action adaptation in the works.
