NEW DELHI: The last rites of India's former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, will take place on Saturday.
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal shared this information with reporters late Thursday night, expressing that the funeral will occur on Saturday.
He described Dr. Singh's passing as a "painful loss" for the nation, praising him as a true icon of Congress and a post-independence hero whose leadership was admired across the country.
Venugopal also announced that all Congress events, including the Foundation Day celebration on December 28, would be canceled for seven days.
Dr. Singh's body was brought to his residence at 3 Motilal Nehru Marg from AIIMS on Thursday night, where the public can pay their respects. Senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, visited his home.
Dr. Singh, 92, passed away at AIIMS on Thursday evening due to age-related health issues.
He had experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home before being rushed to the hospital, where efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. AIIMS confirmed his death at 9:51 PM on December 26, 2024.
