Residents of Tokha will get free blood and blood components. For this, a bilateral agreement has been signed between Tokha Municipality and Nepal Red Cross Society, Central Blood Transfusion Service today. Now the city dwellers will not have to pay any fee for blood test and blood bag. Arrangement has been made to provide free blood service on the basis of copy of government documents (citizenship, voter identity card e) certified as a permanent resident of the municipality. It is the second municipality in the Kathmandu Valley to provide free blood to the locals. Prior to this, Kiritipur Municipality has been providing free blood since last November 25.
Tokha Mayor Prakash Adhikari, Deputy Chief Gyan Maya Dangol and Executive Director of NERESO Umesh Dhakal and Executive Director of Central Blood Transfusion Service Divya Raj Poudel signed the agreement.
On the occasion, the mayor informed that an agreement has been reached to provide free blood to the city dwellers. Dhakal, Executive Director of NERESO, said that NERESO focuses on humanitarian activities. "There is a need for more awareness about blood donation," he said. The municipality has an important role to play in this. ” Poudel, director of the Central Blood Transfusion Service, said: "This agreement is an important step in providing accessible and free blood. Cooperation with other local bodies will also be enhanced. Work has been done with high priority for easy access to blood. ”
The municipality has allocated Rs. 500,000 from the current fiscal year in the first phase for blood test and service fee. According to the agreement, the Central Blood Transfusion Service will be reimbursed according to the blood supply.
Similarly, each ward of the municipality will organize blood donation program at least twice a year to help increase blood supply to the Central Blood Transfusion Service.
