Important to get vaccinated amid Omicron: Minister Khatiwada

Health and Population Minister Birodh Khatiwada says the government is working to control the spread of coronavirus amid the surge all around the world. At a regular press briefing held at the Ministry of Health and Population today, he said that the government was focused on making the health service effective, people-oriented, accessible, and accountable to the people.

"Since the prevention and control of COVID-19 cannot be achieved by the response of any particular level or region alone, it is necessary for all sectors, classes, and levels to take action against it," he says. "It is possible to win this battle only with understanding and behavior," adds the minister

Stating that adherence to public health standards and active participation in the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 will help, Minister Khatiwada said that the government has been providing free Covidsheild and Vero Cell vaccines through vaccination centers for the convenience of the general public.

 They are also providing Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for children under-18 ageMinister Khatiwada requested that children between the ages of 12 and 17 get vaccinated. He said that the government has implemented various security measures to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant.

The government has decided not to allow entry of nine different countries including South Africa in Nepal. Similarly, PCR report of all passengers has been made mandatory. According to the minister, additional samples were collected from those who tested positive for the antigen.

Minister Khatiwada informed that more than 21.9 million vaccines have been administered so far. The number of those who have received the first dose of vaccine is 122,51,183 and those who have received full vaccination is 97,037,333.
