Kapilvastu Health Office to hold Cholera vaccination campaign

Cholera that broke out in Kapilvastu last month ago is yet to come under full control.

The disease that had started from Krishnanagar Municipality-9 later spread to Shivaraj Municipality, Bijaynagar Rural Municipality, and Yasodhara Rural Municipality.

The lab test of the sample was confirmed to be cholera. According to the District Public Health Office, Kapilvastu, the disease infected the mass people in the affected areas.

A total of 1,332 people infected with the disease were admitted at the Bahadurgunj-based Shivaraj Hospital, 61 patients were admitted at Bedauli Hospital while six others were being treated at Shivaraj Basic Hospital. As of now, 10 people are undergoing treatment at Shivaraj Hospital, according to hospital health workers.

So far in the district, six people have succumbed to acute diarrheal illness. But, the official data has shown that no death has taken place in the hospital.

The cases had slightly dropped for some days. “But lately, we are receiving 8-10 patients on average on a daily basis,” said Shivaraj Hospital’s Dr Mukesh Chaudhary.

A lot of cases of diarrhea and vomiting can still be found in the villages. But the situation seems to be under control at the Shivaraj municipality-7 and 8 in the district, according to municipality public section Chief Chudamani Bhattarai.

“Public Health Officer Hemraj Pandey said the Health Office Kapilvastu is preparing for vaccination against the illness.

The World Health Organisation has already agreed to provide 250,000 doses of cholera vaccines and the vaccination would start once the vaccines arrive, according to the Office. In the first phase, people of five local levels will be covered in the vaccination campaign.

Health workers said that only the vaccine is not enough to control the disease, maintenance of personal hygiene and use of safe drinking water are necessary for the prevention.
