In order to help a cancer patient, the well-wishers and relatives have raised Rs 1.7 million in Khotang district.
The fund was collected for the treatment of Chandra Kumar Rai of Barahapokhari Rural Municipality-2 in Khotang district.
Rai, a social worker, has been receiving treatment in Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre Hospital in New Delhi for the past seven months.
Kedar Alemagar, a local youth, had campaigned an initiative to raise funds for the treatment of cancer patient Rai, who made significant contributions for the rural development in the area.
Alemagar said that a total of 152 individuals at home and abroad provided support in the fundraising.
According to Alemagar, as high as Rs 350,000 was collected from an individual to help treat Rai.
A family source said that around Rs 1.8 has already been spent for the treatment of Rai and Rs 200,000 is spent on a monthly basis for medication only.
