Suspicious death of woman in Kanchanpur, 7 arrested

A woman has died under suspicious circumstances in Kanchanpur.

The body of Ranchula Saud, 43, of Musepani in Vedkot Municipality-7 has been found under suspicious conditions, according to the police.

Spokesperson of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chakra Bahadur Shah said that the body of Ranchula was recovered from the house of her relative Kamala Saud.

"We have recovered the body of the deceased from the house of a local, Kamala Saud, this morning," Shah said. "As the incident is suspicious, we have arrested seven people and are investigating."

According to Shah, the arrested include seven locals. Dhamijhakri Dharmananda Bhatt of Bhim Dutta Municipality-7 and Narayan Dutta Bhatt of Bhim Dutta Municipality-1 of Kanchanpur have been arrested on the charge of beating the woman to death.

Along with them, members of Saud's family have also been arrested. However, the police have not released the names of all of them.

"They have been arrested on the basis of the locals' claim that a witchdoctor beat the woman to death," said DSP Shah. "Only after the autopsy will the rest be known."

The woman's body has been kept at the Mahakali Provincial Hospital for autopsy. According to the police, the locals said that the incident took place last evening but the body was found in a decomposed state.

Katteram Rana, Ward Chairman of Vedkot Municipality-6, who reached the spot, said that Saud had died after being beaten by the witchdoctor.

"Locals are saying that Saud died due to the beating of a witchdoctor," said Rana. The body is in a decomposed state. The reality of the incident will be revealed after the investigation.
