The government has increased the fares of long-distance passenger and freight vehicles from one state to another by 10 to 15 percent.
Due to the continuous rise in prices of petroleum products, the government has agreed in principle to increase fares in line with the concept of automatic fare fixing. According to the Department of Transport Management, fares have been increased by 10 percent for passenger vehicles, 13 percent for cargo vehicles operating on hilly roads, and 15 percent for cargo vehicles operating in the Terai.
It is mentioned in the information of the department that the fare of public transport operating in two or more provinces has been adjusted with effect from today based on the agreement of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.
According to the scientific fare adjustment system being practiced by the department, if the market price of fuel increases or decreases by five percent or more as compared to the base price during the last fare adjustment, inter-state public transport fare will be automatically increased or decreased.
The information issued by the department includes the list of public transport fares established on short, medium, and long-distance interstate routes, route name, distance, previous fares, and applied fares.
