The construction of the holding center, which will accommodate about 1,000 people, has reached its final stage in Birgunj, Parsa. All the infrastructure works have been completed and only the work of connecting oxygen to 100 beds is left.
According to Vishal Dahal, the in-charge of Hanuman Construction, who was entrusted with the construction, after the corona infection rate increased last year, the government has started the construction of the holding center at Birgunj crossing to quarantine those entering Nepal from the border. "The construction work has reached the final stage", Dahal said. The Nepali Army has taken over the management of the structure under construction.
A building has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 28 million in that area to quarantine the citizens entering Nepal from India through the Birganj border crossing. The built infrastructure includes 13 kitchens, 22 toilets and 22 quarantine buildings that can accommodate 1,000 people. Dahal said that 900 beds will be used for general symptoms and 100 beds for patients with complex conditions.
The government had started the construction of a holding center on about two bigha of land near the godown on the west side of the Birgunj customs office from 25th June 2078. The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on May 5, 2078, with the aim of Corona prevention and control, started the construction of holding centers in eight different checkpoints of the country. Recently, the construction of the holding center has been started after the index of corona infection in Nepal is rising again.
