As many as 15 houses have been inundated due to the flooded Mahakali River in Bhimdatta Municipality in Kanchanpur district.
The embankment along the Mahakali River also caused the blockade of water current in a local Bhujela stream, said local resident Surendra Malla.
“Earlier, we spoke against the poorly planned construction of the embankment. But our voice went unheard. Now the village has been deluged,” he said. The river has eroded around 10 metres of riverbanks near an under-construction bridge, said Ward Chair of Bhimdatta-12, Krishna Singh Deupa.
The road in the area has also been damaged, causing risks of the river gushing into the villages along the riverbanks, said Ward Chair of War No 13, Lal Bahadur Shahi.
Meanwhile, the police have asked the settlements along the riverbanks to stay on their toes against flooding.
Mushetti and Khalla villages along the Mahakali riverbanks and Kutiyakabar and Shanti villages in Dodhara Chandani Municipality are at risk of flood.
