Political parties in Bhaktapur have expressed their commitment to fully abide by the local election code of conduct. He stressed on the need for the election office, police administration and election staff to work impartially to make the election fair, clean and free from rigging.
Representatives of the political parties participating in the interaction program on the implementation of the election code of conduct organized by the district administration office on Tuesday also stressed on the need for the commission to clarify the code of conduct.
During the discussion, Nepali Congress District Secretary Sushil Basnet expressed confidence that the staff would play a fair and neutral role in the upcoming election as in the previous election and pledged his party to abide by the code of conduct.
On the occasion, CPN (UML) District Chairman Vachan Deuja said that the election was formed to adhere to the code of conduct and stressed on the need for all parties to help in its implementation.
Nepal Mazdoor Kisan Party (NMKP) representative Pandav Suwal suggested that immediate action should be taken against the violators of the code of conduct.
CPN (Maoist Center) District Coordinator Sunil Gothe Vasu complained that no action has been taken against the candidates who were listed in the Dalit list even after not being part of that caste in the past.
On the occasion, Chief Election Officer Gopal Prasad Bastola informed that further discussions would be held with the party representatives and candidates on the election code of conduct after the establishment of the office of the Election Officer. He reminded that the election code of conduct was formulated by the party itself while sitting in the election commission and added that it was the responsibility of all to abide by it.
"The party has a key role to play in making the election clean, fair and free of rigging," he said. Chief District Officer Rudra Devi Sharma urged the people not to doubt that the election would be clean, free from rigging and peaceful. Stating that the code of conduct has been implemented after a long discussion, he stressed on the need for all to abide by its provisions.
Meanwhile, the office of the Chief Election Officer and the Returning Officer will be established in Bhaktapur on April 21. The office of the Chief Electoral Officer will be set up at Durbar Square, the old building of Janajyoti Library at Bhaktapur-2 for the local elections to be held on May 13.
Similarly, training centers of Agriculture Development Bank for Madhyapurthimi Municipality, Bode for Suryabinayak Municipality, National Zoological Gardens for Suryabinayak Municipality and Nepal Electricity Authority Center for Changunarayan Municipality will be set up at Kharipati, said Sharma.
