KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has asked the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) to make the media sector dignified and decent.
At a programme organized at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to congratulate and extend best wishes to the newly-elected working committee of the FNJ on Thursday, Minister Gurung said that journalism should be independent and self-regulated.
He shared that the government was drafting the media-related bills to make journalism more systematic and dignified and said he was ready for working with the FNJ in collaboration as the journalism profession was being more challenging and instable.
Minister Gurung, also the government spokesperson, stated that media is an independent body to raise questions to the regime in a democracy.
Spokesperson of the Ministry Gajendra Kumar Thakur and Director General of Department of Information and Broadcasting Pradip Pariyar also congratulated the newly-elected working committee of the FNJ and expressed their commitment for the development of journalism and partnership with the FNJ.
On the occasion, newly-elected FNJ Chairwoman Nirmala Sharma said the FNJ has always stood for freedom of speech despite professional challenges of the journalists.
