The local administration in Karnali Province has demanded to implement online tickets for air services stating that there was no easy air service in the Province.
Chief District Officer (CDO) of Mugu, Rom Bahadur Mahat, shared that a request was made with the Ministry of Home Affairs and other agencies to take necessary initiatives to solve the problem of air transport for the people in remote areas in the Province.
It was demanded that online ticket services be put in place at the earliest for accessible air services for the people of Humla, Mugu, Dolpa, and Jumla districts among other remote mountainous districts.
Although Gamgadi in the district is linked with roadways, road transportation has not been regular and reliable owing to geographical remoteness and bad road condition, said CDO Mahat, adding that air service was the only alternative means of transportation for ill people, people with disability, children and senior citizens among others.
There has been an increase in black marketeering lately without online tickets for air service. Unnecessary crowds to buy tickets increased challenges to providing peace and security, viewed Mahat.
Passengers had to suffer severely due to inconvenience and monopoly of certain airlines operating flights in Karnali Province which were yet to streamline the ticket system for air service, the CDO asserted. "If an online ticket system was put in place and air services were operated regularly and by the ratio of passenger flow then the citizens here would avail service conveniently," he opined.
Earlier, an all-party meeting comprising chief district officers of the remote districts in Karnali Province had decided on operating an online ticket system for air service but to no avail.
