Disaster kills 501 in 11 months in Madhes

A total of 501 people have died in various districts of Madhes during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year.

According to the Madhes State Police Office, Janakpurdham, 182 men, 108 women and 143 children were killed in 1,701 disasters in different districts of the state from July 2021 to May 2022. A total of 210 women, 137 men and 61 children were injured in the incidents. Similarly, a man, two women and five children have gone missing, said Superintendent of Police Tul Bahadur Karki.

During the same period, 435 men, 84 women and 30 children were killed and 7,945 injured in 6,223 road accidents in the Madhes district. Karki informed that action has been taken against 229,878 drivers for violating traffic rules. In this process, the revenue of Rs. 202.7 million has been collected.

Similarly, 57 Indian and 40 Nepali nationals were arrested with illegal weapons from different districts during the same period. Spokesperson Karki said that 15 weapons were recovered from them. Police have arrested 1,367 fugitives in various cases.

In order to discourage drug trafficking, the police have arrested 1,120 men and 21 women from different districts of Madhes, including 3,131 kg of marijuana, 164 g of brown sugar, 51 kg of drugs, 95 g of heroin, and 213 litres of Dilexi DC.

In the same period, 195 people were arrested from different districts of the state with illegal goods worth Rs 401.42 million, said spokesperson Karki. Police have arrested 56 people including 273 vehicles used for excavating riverine materials and 31 people including 36 vehicles used for illegal timber smuggling from different districts.
