"We have been using handpumps for extracting water for a long time," says Sher Bahadur Sarki of Shuklaphanta Municipality-9.
The locals, though, have been facing various health problems due to arsenic, iron and other chemicals present in the extracted water. Thus, a drinking water project has been launched to provide safe drinking water to 600 households, said Ward Chairman Ramesh Bahadur Air. The project is expected to be completed within two years. There is also a plan to install taps in public places, schools, health posts and other areas based on the need.
"Along with the drinking water project, the construction of a city park in the ward area is also moving ahead," said Ward Chairman Air. "The city park is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 22 million."
