Earthquake in Jajarkot: 37 dead, hundreds injured
The death toll in last night's earthquake in Jajarkot alone has reached 37. Hundreds of others are suspected to have been injured in the quake, said Chief District Officer Suresh Sunar.
The deceased include 27 women and 10 men. The earthquake has severely hit Bheri, Nalgad, Kushe, Barekot and Chedagad in the district. All the security forces in the district have been mobilized in the search and rescue work, said CDO Sunar.
Among the dead also includes Deputy Mayor of Nalgad Municipality Sarita Singh, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police of Jajarkot Santosh Rokka.
An earthquake measuring 6.4 in the Richter scale occurred at 11:47 pm on Friday, with Ramidanda of Jajarkot as the epicenter.
