Former Lieutenant-General of Nepal Army, Balanand Sharma, has been appointed as the chief of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC). Sharma was appointed to the post by a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday evening.
Sharma will now be involved in framing new plans to control the spread of the coronavirus in the country. He has also been tasked with the responsibility of implementing the measures announced by the government.
Along with heading the CCMC, Sharma will also be the member secretary of the Directive Committee of CCMC, which is headed by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The member secretary of the Directive Committee is automatically assigned as the chief of CCMC.
Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel used to head the CCMC which was later reorganised with the formation of the Directive Committee.
