Four-wheelers have been restricted for plying across the Banbasa Bridge along the Sharada Barrage following a rising level of water in the Mahakali River.

The Area Police Office, Gaddachauki said th

e water flow in the river has been currently measured at 195,000 cusec. But in the morning, it was measured above 224,000 cusec.

The Indian authorities decided to temporarily ban the movement of four-wheelers on the bridge after the water level exceeds 100,000 cusec, it is said. The bridge has already suggested the need to repair it.

Office Deputy Superintendent of Police Devsingh Badal said the bridge has been temporarily closed off to four-wheelers since this morning. At the moment, only pedestrians and two-wheelers are allowed to pass across the bridge.

Generally, monsoon rain in hilly districts in the Sudur Pashim province leads to the surge of water level in the Mahakali. People residing in the low-lying areas here have been urged to remain watchful to the possible risk from the swollen river. ---
