14 workers have been trapped in the snow for the past five days in Rukum East. Heavy snowfall had taken place on Ghusdung of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality-2, Pelma on December 28 and 29 and they could not get out of the place on time.
Ward No. 2 had planned to build a roundabout after allocating the budget for it. According to ward member Manaram Jhankri, the news came only on Sunday that they were trapped in their place of work.
Among the trapped are 10 men and four women. Jok Prasad Budha, Aunsi Budha, Vishal Budha, Dayalakh Kami, Ramjit Kami, Jani Budha, Krishna Budha, Deepak Kami, Sunil Jhankri, Jundevi Jhankri, Pem Bahadur Kami, Bahadur Budha, Navin Budha and Nanten have been living in Odhar for five days. It is said that the food rations have finished. All of the trapped people are the residents of Pelma.
Chief District Officer Laxmi Prasad Baskota said that a rescue operation was being carried out on Sunday. The Ministry of Home Affairs has been requested to send a helicopter to rescue the workers trapped in the snow, said Baskota. He said the rescue operation was being carried out after identifying their whereabouts.
