All gates of Gandak barrage in Trivenidham have been opened after the water level in Narayani river has increased due to continuous rains. According to the local administration, with the increase in the flow of water in the river, all the gates were opened in the barrage, which normally has 18 gates open.

Acting Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi (Bardghat-Sustapoorva) Khimlal Bhusal said that all the gates of Gandak barrage were opened after the flood of Narayani river approached the alert level. "Until Monday, only 18 gates were opened at the Gandak barrage in Triveni," he said. Acting Chief District Officer Bhusal said that with the opening of all the gates of Gandak barrage, the problem of flooding and inundation in river coastal areas including Susta of Nawalpur has been reduced.

According to the flood measuring center located at Devghat of Narayani River, the water level in Narayani is now seven tens of one meter. The water level in Narayani is considered to be 7.3 meters as alert level and 9 meters as danger level. As the water level rises in Narayani, the settlements in the coastal areas of Nawalpur and Chitwan are at risk. He informed that now the water flow in Narayani is normal, saying that notices have been issued to the public to stay safe from flooding and erosion in the surrounding areas after the water level has increased in Narayani. Five local levels including Nawalpur's Gandakot are at risk of Narayani.

By building a dam in the Gandak Barrage of the Narayani River in Triveni, India has been diverting water for irrigation. India has been irrigating Bihar and Uttar Pradesh through two canals by closing most of the gates of the barrages in winter, but when the gates of the barrages are opened in the dry season, water does not flow in both the canals. Acting Chief District Officer Bhusal informed that the flow of water in Gandak barrage was measured at 283 thousand cusecs this morning.
