Prithviman Gurung, the provincial head of Gandaki province, has said that journalists should wield the pen for freedom and equality, as Liberty, Socialism and Universalism are the pillars of journalism.
In the Gajendra Bhandari Memorial Creative Journalism Award ceremony, established by Kaski branch of the Nepal Journalist Association, he said, "When there is no freedom, journalism should strive for freedom."
Deepak Koirala, chairman of the Gandaki State Economic and Development Committee, emphasized that since the society has always respected and trusted the journalism sector, there should not be any activities that reduce the public trust. Judge Shrikrishna Bhattarai, of District Court Kaski said that the communication sector should become the voice of the voiceless.
In the event, active journalists from Pokhara, Ram Prasad Timilsina and Ram Gurung, were awarded the Gajendra Bhandari Creative National Journalism Award. Gurung has been awarded for the year 2077 and Timilsina for the year 2078. The prize amount was Rs. 25,000, a medal and a certificate.
Ram Prasad is the vice president of Timilsina Federation of Journalists. Likewise, Gurung has been associated with photojournalism for a very long time. Pokhara-11 has been awarding one media person every year from the award established by his family, in memory of Swa Bhandari, who was also a journalist of Flower Bari.
