The landslide that occurred at Rayakhor of Dhuganga rural municipality has blocked the Rahughat River this morning. The landslide-triggered river blockage has formed a pond, it is informed.
Pradeep Magar, a local, shared that landslide took place along the border of wards 6 and 7. “The pond having a length of around 500 meters and 50-feet deep was created as a result of river blockage”, he said, adding, “Landslide is continuously taking place”.
Rahughat is an auxiliary river of the Kaligandaki River. The surrounding land of the river-blocked area has been waterlogged. Magar further informed that risk is still prevailing though the pond has started overflowing.
Dhuganga Chairperson Bhaba Bahadur Bhandari said the people residing in the riverside area were asked to adopt precaution immediately after the river was blocked with continuous landslides.
The powerhouse of the 48.5-MW Upper Rahughat hydropower project and dam of the 40-MW Rahughat hydropower project is under construction in the riverside area.
Chief District Officer Ganesh Bahadur Adhikari said a contingent of the Nepal Army from Chimkhola-based Camp has been sent to the river-blocked area for inspection.
