Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee of the National Assembly has been informed that 13 people have so far died, 26 are missing and eight have been injured in monsoon-induced floods and landslides at various parts of the country.
In the Committee meeting held today at Singha Durbar under the chair of Committee President Prakash Panth, Ministry's officiating secretary Mahadev Panth provided preliminary information about the damages caused by the recent floods and landslides, but further details are still awaited.
According to him, the government has prioritized rescue, relief, and risk management efforts in response to these natural disasters. As he said, last fiscal year the government allocated approximately Rs 1.15 billion for relief and assistance related to incidents of natural disasters.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, is scheduled to brief the meeting about the scale of natural disasters in the country, the volume of losses, preparedness for risk reduction and response and so on. ---
