The Nepal Food Corporation is going to buy rice to transport to some of the mountainous districts in Sudurpaschim Province since the unseasonal-rain triggered flood caused damage to crops there last year.
The Food Management and Trading Company is in the process to purchase 32,000 quintals of Mota rice and 5,000 quintals of Jeera rice to transport to districts such as Humla, Mugu, Bajura, Bajhang and Darchula.
The flood last year damaged crops cultivated across 181,000 hectares of land in Sudurpaschim province. Around 30 per cent of crops in Kailali and Kanchhanpur districts were damaged in the natural disasters as well.
The Company had been buying paddy and transporting rice after threshing rice to hilly districts through a contract process. This time it is buying rice directly for the first time due to a decline in quantity and quality of rice production.
According to Company's Sudurpaschim Province Chief Anjila Basnet, 20,000 quintals of Mota rice and 5,000 quintals of Jeera rice have already arrived at the Company's godown.
