The National Federation of the Deaf, Nepal (NFDN) has demanded the guarantee of the rights of the deaf people.
In a press statement issued on the occasion of the International Day of Sign Languages on Friday, the Federation has insisted that the deaf persons should have a ground to exercise their rights to identity, accessibility, inclusion and participation guaranteed by the Constitution, UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disability, the Act Relating to Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Education Act and so on.
Each year, September 23 is observed as the International Day of Sign Languages on the call of the 72nd UNGA in December 2017.
As the World Federation of the Deaf, the population of the deaf people worldwide numbers 70 million while 80 percent of them resides in the developing countries. Collectively, they use 300 different sign languages.
