Mayor of Kamalamai municipality Upendra Kumar Pokharel has said that there is an absence of financial transparency in non-governmental organizations.
Mayor Pokharel said this in an interaction on the right to information organized by the National Information Commission in Sindhulimadhi on Friday. He said that service-oriented organizations are ironically profit-oriented.
He said the Non-Governmental Organizations do not share information about how much funds they have spent on social work. The information is hidden.
Alleging that millions of rupees are being collected in the name of the poor and destitute, he emphasized that the State should bring the organizations that work in an opaque manner under the ambit of the law.
Information Commissioner of the National Information Commission Ratna Prasad Mainali said that the law is equally applicable to all and that non-governmental organizations should not hide information. Furthermore, information officers must be appointed in all organizations.
Chief District Officer Ramesh Neupane, local level representatives, employees, journalists, and right-to-information activists participated in the program chaired by Commissioner Mainali.
