The Election Commission is preparing to print around 20 million ballot papers for the upcoming local elections. Commission spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel informed that an agreement has been reached with the supplier company on Sunday to purchase the required papers for the ballot papers. In a regular press meet organized by the Commission today, it was informed that the company has an agreement for the purchase of paper worth Rs.11 Crores.
It is yet to be decided how many types of ballot papers will be printed by estimating the number of candidates based on the details of the political parties active there with the local level. Out of 111 political parties registered with the Election Commission, 80 political parties have applied for party registration for the purpose of participating in the local level elections.
For the local level election to be held on May 13, the party was called upon to apply for party registration by giving a period of 11 days from February 17 to 27. The commission has also instructed to procure and manage 15 types of materials required for the election by the state and election offices. The commission has demanded a budget of Rs. 8.95 billion from the Ministry of Finance for the local level election. It was informed that despite discussions between the Commission and the Ministry regarding the disbursement of funds, no disbursement has been made so far.
