The Province Affairs Committee has tabled the bill made to amend the Bagmati Province Communications Media Management Act, 2075 BS with amendment in the Province Assembly after its clause-wise discussion.
Committee's senior-most member Shivaraj Adhikari tabled the report with a decision at the province assembly meeting on Sunday.
The meeting of the Bagmati Province Affairs Committee held at Hetauda endorsed the bill with a general amendment.
After its enactment from the provincial assembly, the bill will be transformed into the Act and come into effect.
The amendment has removed arrangements for media running programmes without renewal to raise income as advertisement.
Likewise, the amendment has specified an arrangement noting broadcasting duration can be extended up to six months if the organizations obtaining FM radio license furnish justifiable reasons for not being able to broadcast contents within a year. The federal government will be informed regarding frequency of the concerned organization even if broadcasting service is not continued within a year, the amendment proposal stated.
The amendment also included a provision that the public welfare information and advertisement of the province government will be distributed to the media registered in the province as per the ministry-stipulated work procedure.
Also, the amendment has incorporated an arrangement to produce and distribute study contents and conduct training, fellowship and technical consultation programmes for capacity building.
The province government can award working journalists and media operational in the province as per the designated criteria and genre, the amendment stated.
