A suspension bridge in Chame, district headquarters of Manang, was swept away on Tuesday evening by the flood in the Marshyangdi River caused by incessant rainfall. People in the area have started facing problems now as the bridge was the only link connecting Chame to Upper Manang.
Earlier too, the flood in the Marshyangdi River and the landslides caused by heavy rains had damaged the roads in the area. The latest damage has made the situation worse, according to Chief District Officer Bishnu Lamichhane. The flood has affected normal life in the region, he added.
Chairperson of Chame Rural Municipality, Lokendra Bahadur Ghale, said problems have been further compounded in delivering daily essentials to people who were earlier affected by floods and landslides after the bridge was swept away.
