Around 2,200 trees have been cut down from Jamune to Kotre in Tanahun district along the Prithvi Highway.
The trees on both sides of the road from Jamune in Myagde Rural Municipality to Kotre in Shukla Gandaki Municipality were cleared in a bid to widen the road, Assistant Resident Engineer of Super Vision Consultancy Mohan KC said. It is said 1,200 more trees are left to cut down owing to the transmission line of the power supply. He said alignment and maintenance of the route are also taking place.
The width of the road from Khairenitar of Tanahun to Thula bazaar of Pokhara is fixed 46 meters while the width will be half of that in the areas that need filling and 18 meters in the section where cutting is not feasible.
