CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that his party was carrying out activities for bringing about good changes in the country.
Administering oath to Chakka Bahadur Lama, who was nominated as the central committee member of the CPN (UML), at the party's central office at Chyasal in Lalitpur on Monday, Oli reiterated that his party was not in politics just to get the portfolios of Prime Minister, Speaker, Minister and Chief Minister. It was rather a political party that does politics to bring about good changes in the country, he viewed.
The former Prime Minister claimed that his party was the only party that garners support from the people.
On the occasion, Oli asked the party cadres and leaders to go to the people in a simple and sensible manner.
According to him, his party was moving ahead with the plan to take forward the 'Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepali' campaign. Stating that a very powerful international racket was involved in the gold smuggling scam, Oli said the UML demanded an investigation committee to curb corruption and smuggling prevailing in the country.
On a different note, he said that the constitution could be revised if there were any flaws in it. "But the country should be run constitutionally. Let the State adhere to the rule of law," he maintained.
Oli argued that the State should encourage citizens to abide by the rules and be patriotic.
It may be noted that the UML Secretariat meeting convened on August 14 had nominated Kedar Neupane and Lama as the party's central committee member.
Meanwhile, the opposition CPN (UML) has summoned its secretariat for a meeting on September 26.
The party's secretariat meeting would be held at Bishnupur Katti of Siraha district, UML's publicity department chief Rajendra Gautam said.
