The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Gabrias, has arrived in Kathmandu at the formal invitation of Health and Population Minister Virodh Khatiwada.
Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Roshan Pokharel welcomed the gathering. Accompanied by Director General Gabrias, WHO Regional Director for the Southeast Asia Regional Office Dr. Poonam Khetrapal and other WHO officials are also present.
Director General Gabrias will attend a dinner hosted by Health Minister Khatiwada this evening in honor of the WHO delegation.
During his three-day visit, Gabrias is scheduled to hold courtesy meetings with President Vidyadevi Bhandari, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Prasad Timilsena, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He is also scheduled to meet Health and Population Minister Virodh Khatiwada and Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka. While in Nepal, he will also hold discussions with senior officials of the Government of Nepal, the WHO Representative in Nepal, and the United Nations representatives.
During his visit to Nepal, he will also inspect the vaccination campaign against typhoid and the National Public Health Laboratory, Pokharel informed. The team led by Gabrias is scheduled to return from Nepal on April 25.
