During the counting of votes in Dang Region No. 2, 88 ballot papers were found without the signature of the election officer. Due to this dispute, the counting of votes was also stopped for a while.
Chief Electoral Officer Kripasur Karki, who was entrusted with the task of investigating the unsigned ballots, informed that they have decided to cancel those ballots in coordination with the Election Commission. He also said that the election officers who did not sign the ballot papers will be punished according to the law.
49 ballot papers with the stamp on the Maoist center and 33 ballot papers with the stamp on the CPN-UML did not have the signature of the election officer. Some ballot papers which were stamped on the symbols of different parties were also found to be unsigned. The counting of votes was stopped for about half an hour after the representatives of the candidates raised their voices about whether this was a coincidence or an intention.
Ballot papers of Padmodaya High School, Jabarkot, Banglachuli of the Garhi community, and other places were not signed. According to Chief Electoral Officer Karki said that all those ballots will be automatically invalidated. "When 88 ballot papers were found without the signature of the election officer, it seemed that the counting of votes was suspended unofficially, after that I coordinated with the Election Commission," he said. "Investigation is underway and action will be taken against the polling officer. The unsigned ballots were canceled according to the provisions of the law", he added.
