Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Khagaraj Adhikari is taking a vote of confidence today.
Chief Minister Adhikari is scheduled to take a vote of confidence in a meeting of the Gandaki Province Assembly taking place at 3:00 pm today, said Information Officer of Province Assembly Secretariat, Prem Subedi.
CM Adhikari lost his majority after the ruling CPN (Maoist Centre) withdrew its support from the government on March 24.
He is taking a vote of confidence from the province assembly as there is a constitutional provision that vote of confidence should be taken within 30 days after political parties partnering in the government withdrew support.
According to the Province Assembly Secretariat, the Chief Minister is taking a vote of trust as per Article 188 (2) of the constitution.
Of the 60-member Province Assembly, support of 31 members is needed to the Chief Minister. Adhikari became the third Chief Minister of Gandaki province with the support of CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Centre) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party on January 9.
There are 27 members of the Nepali Congress, 22 of the CPN (UML), eight of CPN (Maoist Centre) including Speaker, two of Rastriya Prajatantra Party and one independent in Gandaki Province Assembly.
