The CPN (UML), one of the coalition partners in the incumbent government, has decided to give continuity to the current coalition till the upcoming presidential election that is slated for March 9 this year.
The 17th secretariat meeting of the party held at party headquarters, Chyasal, decided this effect, said Prithivi Subba Gurung, chief of UML's publicity department.
Gurung shared, "We will give continuity to the current coalition till the presidential election which is taking place on March 9. We have also decided to move ahead as per the agreement inked with the coalition partners on December 25 last year."
He clarified that the coalition with the ruling party-CPN (Maoist Centre)- has not been broken. Furthermore, the party decided to pick its Vice-Chairperson, Subas Nembang, as the presidential candidate as per the agreement made with the ruling party on December 25 last year, he added.
"Our emphasis lies on compliance with the December 25 agreement."
Also, the party decided to hold discussions with political parties other than the Nepali Congress (NC) regarding garnering support for UML's presidential candidate-Nembang.
Gurung explained that since NC had already fielded its presidential candidate, they begin discussions with all other political parties except the NC.
The UML will continue its discussion with those parties to lend support to the party's presidential hopeful and efforts will be made to bring them on board regarding the election of Nemwang as the next Head of the State.
Nemwang was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Ilam-2 in the November 20 election.
The meeting also relieved Durga Prasai from the post of party's central member while Dr. Deepak Prakash Bhatta has been entrusted with the responsibility of the secretary of the party's department of finance, it was shared.
