Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Kul Bahadur Gurung has underlined the need of running the party by maintaining unity among all associated with the party, keeping nation, nationality and democracy at first.
Inaugurating the third general assembly of the BP Thought National Society here today, the octogenarian leader expressed his concern over what he said political atmosphere going out of track.
"Politics has become a profession and politics-inflicted power, respect and dignity is being used for personal gains or the interests of a certain group," he said, adding the followers of BP Koirala, the founder of Nepali Congress, should work for the sake of country and the people with dedication. He urged party leaders and cadres to adhere to the principles of BP.
Also speaking on the occasion, former Speaker Taranath Ranabhat said the NC was losing track as the party’s thought and principles were sacrificed for the gains of power.
Society joint president Govinda Raj Joshi said the NC primarily responsible for safeguarding nationality, establishing democratic stability, achieving economic prosperity and improving the people’s living standard had been divided.
Constitutional law expert Bhimarjun Acharya was of the opinion that not only a particular party but also the entire people should advocate for strengthening democratic institutions and related structures.
The two-day convention of the Society which has its presence in 71 districts except for Darchula, Dadeldhura, Manang, Mustang, Bhaktapur and Tehrathum of all seven provinces will conclude Sunday electing new leadership.
